Indie game: Chomp, Chomp, Chomp

It’s like if Pacman and Bomberman just went out to different bars one eventful night. They both went with their respective friends, acted belligerent and were kicked out of the bar. Angry at their fun cut short, each party walked home in a drunken stupor. Somewhere along the way, both Packman and Bomberman met up drunkenly unable to stand. They talk about nothing and everything as a night full of powering down Long Islands and shots are wont. One goes to the other’s apartment and, well, things went down. From that union, the game Chomp, Chomp, Chomp came forth.

Pig and Bullet

Pig and Bullet at first glance looks like a bunch of craziness. You have a pig and bullets. That’s it. One lone pig and a hail storm of bullets. It would be considered a bullet hell, a game in which you fly around avoiding bullets and hitting huge bosses in a small craft with a one pixel hit box, but the bullets don’t move in huge complicated patterns. In fact, all you get is a shower of bullets raining down at you in a slow fall. The bullets are never ending.

Shooting Chicken: Brutal Suckers

OK, OK, OK. I have never shied away from weirdness and don’t plan on it. I’ve seen games full of rainbows, kittens, weird monsters and stranger premises. I’ve played many games that clearly were intended for parody. And then you get Shooting Chicken: Brutal Suckers. I mean the title alone is just weird. You are told that you are indeed shooting chickens. They apparently are brutal, according to the title.

Whether the title is saying that the chickens are a bunch of brutal suckers or are capable of brutal sucking, one is not sure. The company that made this, Kohei Gallery, clearly enjoys making games with odd settings. A bit of "Engrish" is found in some of the text, but generally the story text to an English speaker is rather good.

A game with a strange name on Xbox LIVE.

No, that name is not a typo. It is in fact named ‘I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1.’ It is in fact a game on Xbox LIVE. You are in some awesome chamber where it is just you and them. They are brainless, flesh-eating things that want your brains. You stand your ground with a barrage of weapons that you can collect as you circle around shooting anything that comes within a foot of you.

The playing field is a background displaying in proud text ‘I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1.’ This background at first doesn’t change as a rock song screaming "I MAED A GAM3 W1TH Z0MB1ES!!!1" blares. I mean the song basically tells you the maker indeed made a game about shooting zombies and to do so or you will die. Are you sensing a theme? I sure am. But over time, the background starts to become the foreground as obstacles appear tripping you up and cornering you.

Hell Yeah! Wrath of the Dead Rabbit

Hell Yeah Announcement Trailer [HD]

This title isn’t an indie game, but boy does it look and feel as fresh as one and it’s not even out yet! Then again, the game gives me a strange Disgaea: Hour of Darkness vibe. I mean come on, you have a rather non-assuming and even adorably cute ruler of hell starring in both of them. In this game’s case, it's an undead bunny. Both get caught up in an unfortunate event (in Laharl’s case it was being drugged for oh a few hundred years).
