Panzer General, Tower Bloxx and +10 to Bravery
So what's been going on this Wednesday? Xbox Live sees two new arrivals, Panzer General Allied Assault and Tower Bloxx. There are also news about Xbox in general (watch out memory cards!) and of course, the latest Guild update.
Arcade releases
Panzer GeneralSeems like XBLA will see another strategy game making the rounds this week. It's none other than Panzer General: Allied Assault. Developed by Petroglyph Games, this is a turn-based game that draws it fighting tactics from World War II. What's interesting about this game is perhaps its link to actual historical events. If you are a history buff, these little nuances might appeal to you. If you have played strategy games, you know the drill. Prep up your base, plan it out and attack the enemy. Except that there is a twist to this game; here you will be using cards to play out the game. And you also get to unlock more cards as you progress further into the game. Check it out, it's available for 800 MS points.
The game accompanying Panzer General into Xbox Live Marketplace is called Tower Bloxx Deluxe. The game was created by Digital Chocolate and appears to be a strat-puzzle combo game. I suppose you could call it a variation of SimCity since the game is all about building up a city. Unlike the mobile game, the XBLA version boasts six game modes as well as multiplayer functionality. Social interaction seems to be a big part of this game since there is also mention of avatar support and other such features. This game can also be nabbed for 800 MS points.
Xbox News
XboxSad day for PC gamers, isn't it? Play.tm recently quoted Michael Patcher as saying that Xbox Live prices can one day reach $50 -100. This is about how gaming is moving towards consoles, how most folks will prefer hooking up to such a central system to access trendy games and bash it out with online buddies. Hence, I suppose the point is that as more folks dig into the whole Xbox Live concept and they start delivering more services, the cost of Xbox Live membership will go up. As it is, a number of features (Facebook, Twitter, etc.) will soon be introduced to XboxLive soon.
This is hardly surprising, considering this is MS, is it now? The news is that Xbox 360 will block third-party memory cards. So if you are not using the official memory units, you might be in for a nasty surprise with the next dashboard update. I suppose MS needs the extra cash, you know, for ads about Win 7 Launch Parties and such. Yea, given that Xbox is one of the few things MS is doing right, you might not want to alienate the folks who do support their products.
The Guild: +10 to Bravery
A few more weeks and the third season will be over! Well, before that you can still enjoy tons of Guild antics. The pressure increases on Codex as she tries to help Bladezz fend off AoA attacks. Vork is still on his exploratory mission and Sandeep's love woes increases. Can I just add that the leader of the AoA, in addition to wearing eye-catching T-shirts, also does an excellent job as the creepy guildie guy?
