Alright, so it's Wednesday again. I wish there was more Brutal Legend to talk about. But that's not the case; this week, everything goes back to normal and we talk about games that don't involve any moshing … unless you really really want to do it, that is.
The Guild
Before I dive into the news, take note. Episode 5 of season 3 of The Guild is out. The Knights of Good are reeling from shock as they realize Tink is just not coming back. But it's not all bad; they might have found a new member already! That's good news right? Even if his name is Mr. Wiggles?
XBLA Releases: MM, Bust a Move Live & Football Genius
Looks like they have mingled genres in this batch. All of them are available for 800 MS Points. First of all, you have Military Madness:Nectaris, a turn-based strategy game. It is a re-imagining of an old classic, first released on TG-16. So, there you are defending your base on the Moon and plotting and planning to take over enemy bases while you are at it. Apparently one party consists of a group of prisoners revolting against their imprisonment on the Lunar base. Whatever the case, the units and weapons should guarantee hours of fun, especially as you fight it out online against your friends. One of the new features include brand new commander units and capabilities which should be of interest to old fans. Check out trailer here.
Bust a Move Live! belongs in the casual gaming category. By the way, is it just me or is there a bubble game trend going on recently? First there was Bubble Bobble and now this? Oh wait, this game is derived from the BB series. Makes sense, but not where game releases are concerned. Isn't this a bit too close to the other release of bubble-filled goodness? This particular game is the puzzle version where you blast rows of colored bubbles using identically colored bubbles. A lot of 'match one with similar colors and bust it' games are based on these
rules and this one's goes along the same lines. To its credit, it has a cute cartoonish feel to it. You can also get extra stages when you buy 'Extra pack I' and 'Extra Pack II'. For some reason, the Team Xbox site implies that you get multiplayer mode when you purchase one of these packs. Isn't that a bit strange?
Then there is Football Genius: The Ultimate Quiz. I am not sure if I can say that with a straight face, mostly because of the word 'ultimate'. Imagine George Carlin reading that title and you'll see what I mean. This game will probably appeal more to sports fans than casual or hardcore gamers. It is rather niche specific and, to these folks, this game just might be the winning factor. The bee's knees. You know what I mean. It comes with 6 question packs and contains more than 3 000 questions.
Xbox News: Sky TV, Fable & Lucidity
Seems like the upcoming news is a bit more exciting this week. For those who have a soft spot for Sky TV will be delighted with this bit of industry gossip – the channel might be coming to Xbox Live sometime in October! Play.tm notes that it was mentioned in Sky magazine so they are giving some amount of credibility to this bit of news.
And the first part of Fable II is out for free. Apparently it is comprised of five parts and Microsoft decided to try out this new experiment where they offer the first part gratis. The following parts will have to be purchased by users but it seems like an interesting idea. After all, you get to play a bit and see if you like the feel of the game. Furthermore, given Fable's popularity, it goes without saying that a lot of people will end up buying it. Gaming Bits
covers this story and they also point out that the price for the other parts have not been set yet. That would be interesting, checking to see the price tag on the next parts.
On a side note ... here is something I came across when I was searching for Fable II news. Talk about your wtf moment of the day.
Then there is the bit of news about Lucidity. It's the hyped about Lucasarts game that is now set for release on October 7th. And, it gets better – the game will only cost 800 MS Points, which seems like a great deal when you consider the look and feel of the game. Check out gameplay of Lucidity here.
