Let's see what's on for this week. Looks like most of the games out on Arcade are boring. Except for Lazy Raiders which has me sold. And there is also some interesting news about upcoming games. And a weird reaction by Alien versus Predator guys.
GreedCorp looks like a game that was inspired by both Risk and Command and Conquer. It's one of those 'loot the minerals and build an army' sort of games. Except that it looks suspiciously innocent with its cute graphics. It is weird but seems like the previously resource-rich area will collapse once you use up all the resources. Certainly adds to your strategic planning, doesn't it?
This strategy game was developed by W! Games and is available for 800 MS points.
I can't believe they made this game. Fret Nice comes across as a game that is trying too hard to be something else. Seems like someone took one look at Brutal Legend and thought, how can we dumb it down and make it 'better'. Please remember, I am using the words 'better' rather loosely here.

So basically, you are this horrid cutesy-but-trying-not-to-look cute character who must go through the game playing guitar riffs. And apparently defeat big bad 'heavy metal' bosses. Oh give me strength …. No self-respecting metal fan will touch this. If that is your target audience. The graphics as a whole doesn't look too bad but it doesn't have a metal feel to it. I am so tempted to paste a link to Blow Your Speakers right about now. Those of you who weren't driven away by my ranting can go check it out for 1200 MS points.
Finally, something I can praise. Lazy Raiders is my kind of game. It has a sluggish main character which you control by tilting his environment around him. It looks pretty and has a fun feel to it, what more could you want? Oh and you get a sense of achievement when you collect bits and pieces. I keep thinking, this game probably suits the smartphone better than the console, right? Everything about it says mobile game. And I don't mean that in a bad way, just meant it would be more interesting. Grab it for 800 MS points.
In other news …
Play.tm talked about Super Meat Boy making an appearance on XBLA. It's a weird little game that made a name for itself on the Wii (and nabbed some fans while they were at it). Now Xbox users can expect to manipulate the meaty little brat sometime later this year.
This is why I won't pre-order games. Unless it is something developed by Blizzard. I've come across a lot of bad reviews for Alien vs Predator and I certainly am not sold on the game. It looks great and it could have been something fantastic. But looks like the game went the movie route and flopped. Or so I thought. Destructoid wrote about the game developers' take on the game's success and they seem unconcerned by gamers' criticism of the game. It was more of a “Bah, it sold so many copies that it made it to #1 … so pffft!”. Oookay.
