Chime, The Guild and BattleBlock

This week sees the inclusion of a beat-based game on Arcade, not to mention a lot of weird news tidbits about Xbox in general. For instance, there's more information about the upcoming Behemoth game and the next season of the Guild.

There's a trend towards music-based puzzle-solvers, isn't there? I suppose it is catering different types of gamers out there …. The game in question is the Arcade release for this week called Chime.

Developed by Zoe Mode, this game has a Tetris-style-fill-up-the-grid feel to it. Except in this case, the blocks will play musical notes when you fill up a section of the playing grid. Thus, the lower half represents the lower notes and upper level represents the higher notes. For all it's worth, it looks like a fun game.

Apparently the game also features songs by well-known musicians (e.g. Moby) where you can remix bits of their songs on the grid. Or something to that effect. I'm not the biggest remix fan so I am not entirely sold on that idea. But the initial music-based grid-filler sounds like a blast. Incidentally, there was also a note about charity donation. The good folks at Zoe Mode are giving away 60% of the purchase price from their royalties to children's charities. Grab this game for 400 MS points.

Alert: cuteness overload! Destructoid mentioned an update about the new Behemoth game. It's called BattleBlock Theater where the main guy is shipwrecked on an island and forced to take part in weird performances. Check out the site for full details, the actual summary is not as Rocky Horror as my description suggests. Judging from the trailer, the game looks promising. It's like someone successfully adapted the gameplay bits of Ice Climber and whatnot from the good old games.

Xbox folks are more kiddy than PSN players? What's with that comment? According to The Escapist, that's what one of the folks behind MAG were saying. This was in relation to the FPS (the aforementioned, PSN exclusive game called MAG) where the spokesperson, Ben Jones, thinks that online players on PSN networks will excel at co-op games. You know, because of the team spirit, all round love and all. Pfft. Much as I am a fan of both, I'd say that playing games via PC lands you with some of the best team mates. Think Team Fortress 2.

Exciting news about the Guild. According to The Guild's recent twitter message, they are starting work on the fourth season of the beloved web series. Apparently Felicia Day has started the writing bits already. Here's hoping to see more of Axis of Anarchy.

Here's another game folks might want to watch out for – Space Ark. GameZone notes that this game is a tribute of sorts to old school games and will be available for download on XBLA in spring 2010. It looks interesting and, for some reason, the graphics make all the collectible look like snacks. It is slightly disturbing that the DNA bits look more appetizing than the fruits themselves. Well, at the very least, this game will make you feel hungry.
