Chinese Workers At Xbox 360 Plant Threaten Mass Suicide
As we look at various workers rights issues around the U.S., it’s easy to feel that the middle class is being squeezed by both employers in the private sector and government taxation in the public. Workers may sue for compensation, go to their respective unions, or even strike and refuse to be productive. However, sometimes we’re also reminded that not everywhere in the world provides the same relatively safe and institutionalized means for peaceful resistance. One such story comes out of China, where according to the subversive China Jasmine Revolution (via Want China Times), 300 workers at a manufacturing plant in China that makes Xbox 360’s threatened to commit mass suicide if their demands for compensation were not met.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 has been released to resounding joy by its fans and gamers everywhere. The bulk of their happiness, however, seems to stem from the fact that MW3 is… the same game! Yes, that’s right…Activision, in their infinite wisdom, was able to please their massive fan-base by turning out yet another Call of Duty that doesn’t seem significantly better or different than any of the others. This is evidenced in Kotaku’s “Gut Check” from earlier this week, when after the release, the over-riding advice was, “Buy this game! It’s exactly like the other ones!”
A Few Thoughts on Americans and Soccer
Sorry to take your blog farther afield, Doc, but you touched on a topic that intrigues me: the constant tendancy to psychoanalyze Americans on the basis of not being sufficiently excited about soccer.
Oh, maybe it's "Americans insist on instant gratification" or "Americans hate any of that-there furrrin stuff" or "Americans are too fat/lazy/dumb/fill-in-the-blank to bother to get it" (not accusing you of anything, Doc).
Maybe it's just me, but it seems a lot more simple -- and it's revealiing that people look past the simple answer in order to develop their big socio-psychological-political answers. Read more about A Few Thoughts on Americans and Soccer

Gerrit Cole & Jackie Bradley Jr.
I noted in the comments that other day that two guys likely to be in the vacinity of where the Ms will draft have been advancing in the College World Series, and it turns out they will meet in the finals starting tonight.
UCLA RHP Gerrit Cole will get the start for the Bruins in the opening game of the best-of-three final. In his earlier start, he whiffed 13 in 8.0 IP, and earned an interview with Erin Andrews (yes, there are baseball highlights on there, too): http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=5313322
Cole is a big guy who can crank it up to 98 and also has two solid offspeed offerings. Reportedly was throwing 97 in the 8th inning the other day. He was a first-round prep pick by the Yankees in 08, but opted for UCLA. Read more about Gerrit Cole & Jackie Bradley Jr.

Resident Evil 5 Review

So … I finished Resident Evil 5 last week. I've been a fan of the game series ever since the first polygonish Umbrella-kicking adventure and thus, was eager to play the most recent one in the series. And given that I had not played the fourth part, I didn't quite know what I was in for. Now I know.
Graphics
Alright, so RE 5 is incredibly pretty; it's realistic and sparkling fresh (but not in a vampire in sun way), right down to the executioner's gritty look. And it's not just the people and environment that grab your attention. The folks have added in little details into your surrounds (like when you smash boxes, hack away at apples … as you do) which adds to the overall look of the game.
