  • Army of Two will Make you Hate Their Multiplayer Schemes!

    Add Comment

Army of TwoI love Electronic Arts, but that does not mean that they are not capable of producing a lackluster video game title for the Xbox 360. And before all you lovers of Army of Two go on your brandishing of me for my lack of caring about this game, the game itself is sweet, offers some cool and unique innovations and has amazing graphics. But, the two player functions are sloppy, shoddy and forbidding—and ultimately they ruined the entire experience of the game for me. Trust me, I will tell you all that I loved and hated about this game in the paragraphs that follow!

The game is setup like you are a two man army. You can outfit your soldiers and the game does offer a decent in game tutorial so that you both know how to work together as one. But, you can only play the game with either another player present on the same console, or live. That is, unless you want to be subjected to the computer playing your partner and sucking ass because of poorly created AI.

  • The Simpson’s: The Game: Xbox 360 Welcomes the Yellow Family!

    Add Comment

The SimpsonsIf you are as avid of a fan as I am of the Simpsons then you will love the newest game that has finally made its way to the next generation video gaming consoles. The Simpsons: The Game is the latest foray of the animated and colorful family from Springfield, brought to you and to life on the Xbox 360 by none other than Electronic Arts. The game has a rather lengthy intro that looks nearly identical to the cartoon, meaning that the animations and the frame rates are about identical to those that you see on TV, and sometimes they are even better.

In the beginning Bart is caught playing a mature adult video game called Grand Theft Springfield – when Marge catches him and takes it away. Throughout the game, you will explore the lives of all of the lovable family, from Homer – where you are taken on an adventure in his dream about cakes, candies and marshmallows, to Bart riding around on his skateboard getting into trouble all over the place.

  • Unreal Tournament 3 – The Third Edition Rocks and Also Lags!

    Add Comment

Unreal TournamentThanks to Midway Games and Epic Games, who brought to us this mid-2008 release of the long awaited third edition of the epic shooter frenzy that is Unreal Tournament 3, something that had more hype and anticipation behind than most other shooter games, mostly due to the vast cult following that this game has managed to convert and garner over the years. The graphics do deliver on the upper spectrum; however I still find that the weapon sets are boring and unimaginative. I want more special weapons, more special modes on the weapons, and namely, more freaking weapons to choose from!

The boards and levels have been ramped up, but the lack of being able to engulf yourself in a destructive environment left me wondering why. The game play offers quick frame rates—mostly due to a brand new graphics engine—but still for a shooter, this game seems to missing something, and was unable to keep me entertained for all that long before the redundancy sets it.

  • WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007: One of the Better Wrestlers You’ll Play!

    Add Comment

Wrestle ManiaA Creation of Yuke's Media Creations and THQ, WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 for the Xbox 360 is actually one of the best wrestling games that I have ever laid my grubby paws upon the controller over. The graphics are the best part of the game, by far, and are smooth, fluid, realistic and sick. The frame rates are fast, and the high definition vibes that the graphics exudes are simply hard to top, especially considering that this game was released in 2007. While the online play is glitchy and hampered by poor servers and the bandwidths of whomever you are challenging that day, the rest of the game is more ripped than Sly Stallone when he played Rambo.

You can play as any of your favorite wrestlers from the entire WWE roster, and this time around they don’t like plastic molds.

  • World Championship Poker: Featuring Howard Lederer – Sweet Poker Game

    Add Comment

World Champ PokerIn a nutshell this game is all things poker. So, that being said, if you are not a fan of variants the game of poker, and or, you have no idea how to play the game, this may not be a winner for you in the end. If you do, however, love the game of poker, then this game is a sweet purchase. Especially considering that you can get your hands on a used copy of this game for pretty cheap now that is has been out for a while. The graphics are pretty damn good, they offer exceptionally high details, and especially on the professional players, who look true to life.

This game offers a pretty wide variety of different poker games for you to enjoy. However, the primary focus of World Championship Poker: Featuring Howard Lederer is on the popular game of Texas Holdem. The controls are pretty basic, with exception to the betting features, which will take you some time to master.

  • UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 – 259 Teams and Nothing Else!

    Add Comment

UEFAThis game was touted as the most expansive and inclusive soccer title ever, but in the end fails to delivered anything more than the lauded 259 teams that they boasted during the pre launch phases of this game. You will almost never hear this blogger bashing EA Sports because they tend to bring to use the best sports games ever made for the next generation consoles; Madden, NCAA, and so forth. However, with regards to UEFA Champions League 2006-2007 this is entirely not the case!

This game does have a few nifty features, however. You can choose from all 259 teams worldwide, and there are about fifty other side missions that you can complete in the team managerial modes. However, if you screw up too many missions, you will get fired and have to start all over again. The graphics are okay, but the controls need some vast improvement.

  • WarTech: Senko no Ronde – Flying Mech Games Never Sucked More!

    Add Comment

War TechWhen gaming companies make video games that are really this bad, this gamer is left scratching his head and wondering why. And, while I am shaking my head in utter dismay, I am reminded of all of the good mech warrior games, like Chrome Hounds and others. But, when it comes to WarTech: Senko no Ronde, this game blows more than a high powered leaf blower on turbo; literally.

The controls are sloppy poor and frustrating and will make most gamers want to fling their controller out the living room window in disgust. The graphics, shoddy, poor and slow frame rates, more polygons than Tetris, and all topped with the lamest, hard to control, flying mechs ever. The online play is as terrible as you could have expected: slowed, glitchy, and entirely without purpose.

  • Top Spin 3 – One of the Best Tennis Games of All Time!

    Add Comment

Top SpinLeave it to 2k Sports and PAM Development to actually make a game that seriously outdoes the prior title, Top Spin 2, and really delivers an action packed, intense, realistic as all hell tennis game that will surely put all others in the dust in its wake, namely Virtua Tennis, which has had some trouble competing with the Top Spin titles in the past. And the late June release of Top Spin 3 saw the world of video gaming tennis change forever on the next generation consoles, especially the Xbox 360!

The only drawback to this version, over the past titles in this trilogy, is that there are some pro players that are exclusive to each console, some are only available on the Xbox 360, and others are only available on the PS3. But, considering how extensive the roster of pro players is on both consoles, who really cares, right?

  • Fight Night Round Three: Decent Boxing Game for All

    Add Comment

Fight NightThere has been seemingly a great lacking of good boxing games for the Xbox 360 gaming console. Ask me why, and I really cannot tell you because I don’t know. I myself was never the biggest fan of boxing video games, but I have dabbled in them from time to time—enough to know that for a long while there were not very many boxing games were that all that great for the Xbox 360. That was, of course, until EA Sports released Fight Night Round 3, which changed the way that I thought about boxing games on the next generation consoles.

Fight Night Round Three is actually a rather intense game that is filled to the brim with superlatives. You begin as a character that you can create which is essentially a rookie that has poor boxing skills. You will have to train your character, via training modes, and add skill points to them in order to even get them to the point where you will be able to go six rounds without hitting the floor.

  • Viking: Battle for Asgard – Fun at First, Repetitive and Boring Later

Vikings RuleThis game I found to be very exciting at first glimpse. You are a famous Viking warrior and you must fend off hordes of the enemy and protect your people – pretty unique concept that does not seem to have been touched upon very much in recent video gaming years. Of course, leave it to Sega to bring us another reclusive game that may or may not make the headlines on the major gaming magazines. When it comes to Viking: Battle for Asgard, unfortunately Sega once again fails to entertain for long periods of time, and the game is not without its major setbacks.

You are pitted in the shoes of a Viking warrior and it’s your mission to hunt down the enemy and free your captured comrades from their prisons. The game features a semi free world. I say that because the terrain is rather limited. You can only walk and trod upon certain places, and others are restricted, and or are closed.

Vampire RainWhen it gets to be July of 2007, and the video gaming companies have virtually mastered all that there is to know about the next generation video gaming consoles, namely the Xbox 360—you come to grow to expect much more from them than a piece of crap game like this. A game, that like the vampires in which it portrays, sucks more human beef than all of Transylvania combined! In a funny note, the game is about being undead and sucking human life from bodies in the form of blood to stay alive. However, similar to this notion is the lengthy and headache-giving two hour in-game tutorial that you must pass before you can even really begin to play the game.

  • UEFA EURO 2008: Quite Possibly the Best Soccer Game Ever!

Best Soccer GameThe world of soccer loving enthusiasts, neophytes and protagonists long awaited the May 19, 2008 arrival of the best soccer game on the planet earth: ‘UEFA EURO 2008.’ And the wait was actually well worth it because the makers of the game, Electronic Arts, was busy developing a newer, better and more capable graphical engine that is smoking hot to the eyes and offers lighting speeds on the Xbox 360.

Keep in mind that EA is already notorious for making the other football game greats, the entire Madden franchise. So it makes perfect sense when you really think about it that they are also the purveyors of the best European football games…right? Why any other video game company even tries to break into this market that is rightfully dominated by EA is beyond me? But now on to the game review, shall we?

In UEFA EURO 2008 you are allowed a maximum team control; you are in total command.

  • TMNT – Turtles in a Half-Shell Arrive for the Next-Gen Consoles!

    Add Comment

Turtles in a Half ShellBeing an avid fan and lover of all things Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, this game was long overdue for the next generation video gaming consoles my friends. But, finally, the wait was officially over on March 20, of 2007, when Ubisoft Montreal and Ubisoft decided that they would give back the world of video gaming its most beloved green and mutated, martial artist turtles in a half shell! This game was entirely based off the recently released animated film, and yes I know, I quite often blast movie spawned video games, but this is a huge exception for TMNT on so many different levels. The game fully delivers, as one would expect it to, and offers endless hours of ninja fighting in a cartoon styled delivery that is nostalgic of the original old school Nintendo game.

The graphics are really decent and really look virtually identical to the high definition rendering that was seen in the film.

  • TimeShift: Original, Unique and Awesome Shooter!

Time ShiftIf you care to rewind with me all the way back to the end of October of 2007, you would realize very quickly that Sierra released one of the better shooters of the time, and for their company history, called TimeShift. This cool idea morphed a time traveling, science fiction game with a high octane, bloody shooter—all to bring you the originality that is signature to this classic molten lead hit for the Xbox 360. Set inside of the uncertainty of a clandestine future, one that is rifted and has been torn apart by worldwide wars that have virtually destroyed humanity, causing despair and wreaking havoc and disaster in their wake.

Timeshift brings you to a not so distant future, where time travel is possible, and is a feature that you will both grow to love throughout the game, and use very often. During any part of the game, if your energy meter is high enough; you can slow down time, pause time, or even fast forward in time to see what will happen.

  • The Darkness: Great Solo Campaign, Multiplayer Needs Work!

    Add Comment

The DarknessWhen it comes to an amazingly, in your face and in depth approach to a morbid and gory, supernatural thriller, my hat goes off to the makers of this title, 2K Games and Starbreeze for what was a decent adventure that saw light of day around the end of June, 2006. In order to get into the right mindset for this game, pretend that Max Payne were to have a date with F.E.A.R. and they went to the local gun club to check out weapons, where they met another game—this game! Yeah, it is that dark, gory, thrill laden and kick ass; and any other superlatives that you care to add to the muster in order to better describe this game’s greatness to the masses.

Where to start? The graphics are amazing and will really make your eyes widen in excitement; mine did. They are so vividly detailed that you will swear some of the graphics are real life photos that have been incorporated into the game.

Test DriveAn early September 5, 2006 release saw a star studded game prevail and be long forever after be hailed as one of the greatest racers on the Xbox 360, a joint effort by Eden Studios and Atari (remember them?) called ‘Test Drive Unlimited.’ I must say, that to-date, this game remains the ‘Grand Theft Auto’ of racing games; it was the first and the best free-world racing game to ever see the light of day. Many will come afterwards, and have. And, many will ultimately succumb to failure in light of this game dwarfing them in all aspects of playing time, a huge virtual board, and so many different things that you can do in the game that you will almost feel overwhelmed at first glimpse; I was!

The game allows you to unlock tons of different, highly detailed racing cars that you can get your hands on when you win different races that are spread throughout the game.

  • Tenchu Z – An Awesome Ninja Assassin Game!

TenchuLeave it to Microsoft to bring us the next greatest Ninja fighting and assassination game for the Xbox 360, however, keeping in mind that they pitted this game against fierce competition in the face of Ninja Gaiden, this gamer is perplexed as to which of these two hack and slash endeavors was better than the other. In other words: they both rock, and they both have their faults, so whomever offers more of something is the dubious winner, or sorts. That being said, I am sure that you are all wondering what the scoop is on Tenchu Z, so without further delay, here we go!

The graphics are high definition, stunning and gorgeous; brilliantly contrived and perfectly and flawlessly executed. The high levels of insane gore spoke right through me, all the way to the innards of my bloody, gore loving and craving heart; with regards to M rated Mature video games that fully deliver a body blasting serving to the masses.

  • Surf's Up: Cartoon Surfing at its Finest! (NOT!)

Surf\'s UPI think its funny how a Canadian video game offshoot of the major US company, Electronic Arts, is the one that ends up delivering a surfing, cartoon video game for the Xbox 360 to the masses. Ubisoft Montreal is the company that I am talking about, and the game is Surf’s Up. Let’s rehash for moment, if you will, what I candidly say about most games that follow, but don’t precede, a major motion picture. Oh yeah, they tend to suck when they come out following a movie. And so, once again this biding notion rings somewhat altruistically with regards to Surf’s Up; and that’s a fact!

The movie flopped, so is it any surprise that this game also followed suit? Think of these games like the lunchbox scams of the 70s and the 80s, where major motion pictures would sell lunch boxes to garner extra merchandising dollars; but there was nothing special about the lunch boxes. So in the game you can choose from all ten of the main characters from the picture.

  • Rock Band: One of the Most Original, Invigorating Games of All Time!

Rock BandYou will not hear me often tell you that a game which is a blatant and total rip off of another, already existing, game is good, and is worth buying and owning. But, there are always exceptions to every rule. And the exception is clearly made here when it comes to Rock Band for the Xbox 360, a Harmonix and MTV Games production that saw a late November of 2007 release date—and a game that would change the world of how music and video games can intertwine forever, not to mention that it would later go on to become one of the best selling games of all time!

The game entirely rips off the whole mantra that was originally provided in Guitar Hero, yet adds some more flavor and spice onto it at the same time. The interface is nearly identical; a scrolling musical instrument piece, of sorts, displays rolling buttons that must be pressed in time to make the instruments do what they do.

  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 is a Major Letdown!

    Add Comment

Pro EvolutionI am not sure what exactly Konami was trying to accomplish here when they released this early 2008 version of the newest, and supposedly hyped to be, latest and greatest Pro Evolution Soccer 2008, but I can tell you that right off the bat, this game is a major letdown for all! Sure you get to play with all of the pros that you have grown to love—that is if you are a fan of this sport. And the game offers plenty of interesting, if not traditional, game modes for fans to enjoy.

But, I think they overdid it a little bit with their production and development budget because the frame rates seem to lag and sag, a bit slower than the 2007 version of the same game. How this happens when you are advancing to a new edition of a game that is built off the same platform, I cannot say. But this one does.

Virtual FighterI have bad news, once again for all of you out there who don’t own an Xbox 360 gaming console: once again you are not going to be able to play one of the better fighting games on the planet because it is only good to play on the Xbox 360. Sorry PS3 owners, once again you are duped out of an amazing game because Sony is unable to negotiate like Microsoft can, what this means is that this game blows ass on the PS3 and rocks on the Xbox 360, and I will happily tell you why!

This late October of 2007 release by Sega, is another surefire demonstration that they are just as prominently established in the video gaming industry as any of the other major players; well this game and all others that sit in the Virtual game franchise, namely, Virtual Tennis 3.

  • Virtua Tennis 3: Cool Game, Great Graphics!

Virtual TennisEarly 2007 saw another fruitful attempt by Sega to garner industry praise, yet at the same time, this game, like many other Sega endeavors, seems to be lacking in far too many places to really get them the kudos that they were driving for in the end. I will credit them with a great attempt at making a decent and fun tennis game. This game offers many of the pro players, save for a few of the top players, which obviously didn’t not get the money they wanted from Sega in order to sign off on the game, but the selection is enough to make most gamers happy. And, you can easily create your own rookie player, which is what I prefer to do anyways!

The best part about this Xbox 360 game is that it fully takes advantage of the sixteen graphical pipelines offered by the console, providing intense and greatly detailed, high definition graphics that scream quality.

The camera angles are awesome and really add to the feeling that you are flying around through the sky as the caped crusader. • Samurai Warriors 2: Empires – Another way to Burn $60!

    Add Comment

Samurai GameI must say that I have never really ever been a fan of the Samurai Warrior franchise for a few good reasons. One, the games are all virtually identical. Two, they keep on inundating the franchise with lame sequels that have nothing new to offer in reality. And three, the game requires that you depress one or two buttons frequently until your hands feel like they are about to fall off of your arms, and there is no true point in the end. Hack and slash. Then hack and slash some more, and well…you get the point…very boring and repetitious in the end. And I am sure that Omega Force and KOEI will hate me for this review, but I don’t really care. As far as I am concerned, this lackluster, poor excuse for a gaming title should have been a shelved project years ago.

Lord of the RingsIt is hard to find RTS games that work good on the Xbox 360, namely because you are limited to the buttons on the controller, as opposed to the many options that you have with a computer keyboard. But when it comes to The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II for the Xbox 360, it is finally an RTS game done properly! The first one was really shoddy, and I was not expecting much with the second, but was very surprised and happy that I played it because this second game is awesome – one of the better RTS games that you will ever play my friends!

You use the A button to move through submenus that will allow you to easily navigate hundreds of different controls. They also offer the best tutorial you will ever find in any RTS for the Xbox 360. They have improved the player models, added more boards, offered more weapon sets, and the game closely follows the battles the occurred in the LOTR movie series.

  • Samurai Warriors 2 – More of an Expansion than Actual Game!

Samurai WarriorsThis late 2006 release by Omega Force netted what was supposed to be a continuation of a boring game, into rather one that is mostly served as an expansion. I never liked the first game (see the first review) as it mostly consisted of pressing the X and Y button until your fingers were about to fall off, and had become considerably numb. That being said, the second enterprise in this series fails to entertain me equally as much, and is nothing more than a lousy expansion is you ask me!

You get a few more characters and a few more, who-cares boards. The bosses suck as much as they did the first time around, and they did nothing really all that noticeable to expand and actually make the game have good graphics for a change. I was left wondering: how is this game a sequel to the first one when all you get is a few more levels and a few more bosses? Exactly!

Shrek The ThirdGenerally speaking, you will never hear me say anything good about any game that is in the third spin off from a major motion picture. However, as much as I hate to say it, Shrek the Third actually breaks from this standard of suck and delivers a new game that is fun to play, exceptional for the entire family and rather original—thank goodness! Where to start…the graphics are as good as the movie and offer some original cut scenes from the film from time to time. The frame rates are very high and I was unable to really find any glitches or mishaps.

There are missions aplenty that you will be challenged with as you take Shrek on his third, and I am assuming, final video gaming adventure on the Xbox 360. There are tons of side missions that you complete, thousands of items that you can use and collect, and the bosses will get tougher and tougher to beat as you near the final levels of the game.

What is the deal with Sega games really sucking as of late? This game was supposed to offer new ways to shoot, duck, blind fire, and offer super combos, that blew your mind…but in the end the game just blows all around. The controls are finicky, the narrative: work your way up the ladder in a rich man’s club that pays to see people kill each other in poorly designed boards that require you constantly run over combo plates to use special moves.

The premise of the game is to pass through missions by getting the most points. This is done by constantly having to fire your weapon to rack up combo points.

Rally RevoWhen it comes to racing games, there are not many that really make my eyes widen. Unfortunately, most of the time, most racing games suck really hard. And shame on you SEGA Driving Studio for bringing us such a lousy racer that has nothing truly to offer but a time waster at best.

The lack of being able to customize your cars is complaint number one. Tantamount to shoddy graphics and poorly designed physics, not to mention few racing tracks to choose from, almost zero interesting modes and really lagging and glitchy racing experience overall that sucks even more on Xbox Live! Well, this notion rings true to life when it comes to the baseball flop, The Bigs for the Xbox 360. The game features ridiculously oversized, bobble head like players with childish controls and no real narrative with the exception to goofiness. Rumble RosesThis game is all about Japanese styled wrestlers that are sparring off in scantily outfits which are very appealing to the eye and leave very little to the imagination. Think: Dead or Alive meets Wrestlemania and you will have the right notion in mind when it comes to Rumble Roses XX for the Xbox 360. Of course, this video game totally utilizes sex to sell it, but isn’t that the classic Hollywood Cliché? The controls are amongst the easiest that I have ever seen and will take but a minute or two to master – and most of the game is spent randomly pressing between a few buttons just to perform different wrestling moves. You can choose between several highly detailed arenas to wrestle in and there are a few other modes, which are similar to nearly every other wrestling game on the planet Earth.

For gamers who are really into the real wrestling games, you will totally abhor this title.

Supreme CommanderNot all of the time, but some of the time there will just be games that crossover from the PC and really lag on the Xbox 360 gaming console. This can be for a number of reasons, most often, because the controls are so limited with a controller, as opposed to a keyboard, that many times the games just are not nearly as diverse as the makers had so intended. This is exactly what happened when it comes to Supreme Commander—not enough controls make this game really suck on the Xbox 360. There are decent graphics and plenty to do, mind you. You get to choose between being one of three different factions, each which has its own vehicles, armies and bases.

The objective of the game is to build bases and units and attack the enemy – all to win the game in the end. This sounds great in concept; however the game has so many controls all that are done using hard to navigate, on screen flywheels that most gamers will quickly become frustrated with this aspect.

  • Robert Ludlum's: The Bourne Conspiracy: Decent Game-After-Movie

    Add Comment

Robert LudlumYou all know how I intimately feel about video games that follow movies, however that does not mean that there are some very rare exceptions to this trodden rule of thumb. Of course when it comes to Robert Ludlum's: The Bourne Conspiracy for the Xbox 360, a decent game that was brought to you by High Moon Studies in mid-2008, it is the exception. The graphics are amazing and high definition, and feature rapid frame rates. A large part of the game circulates around hand to hand combat, where you can even pick up beer bottles off the ground and thwack your opponent in the skull with them; you can also make use of most objects for the same effect.

The enemy AI is complete and will challenge even the most advanced gamers. You can even perform really nifty special kills where, if you press the right buttons flashed across the screen within the right amount of time, you perform an enormous fatality.

  • The Godfather – Cool Game, Still not GTA Though!

    Add Comment

The GodfatherI loved the movies, I loved the game. But that still does not mean that it stacks up to original founder of these games—the car stealing, cop killing, work your way up to the very top of the criminal underworld games—Grand Theft Auto. However, I would much rather have a free world game to play around in and do much more things than the latter. So, even if GTA was the first and the only, other games like this are still awesome in their own rights. Even if they do seem like a little bit of a rip off of the illustrious Grand Theft Auto series from time to time, at least The Godfather, truly holds its own on the Xbox 360 and is a decent mobster game unlike any other currently available. Now on to the scoop…shall we?

This game is the latest and grandest attempt by EA to make their fight against Rockstar’s dominating series of Grand Theft Auto, and while the sales never really added up in the realm of the thing, the game is not all that bad either.

  • Phantasy Star Universe – Multi-Planet Sci-Fi Boredom at its Finest!

    Add Comment

Phantasy StarHey Sonic Team and Sega – the altruistic makers of this flop – did you not know that Americans don’t like games that have Japanese languages with shoddy English overdubs in them? Because that is most of the pile of crap that you will be subjected to with this universal science fiction flop—in what was attempting to be a epic thriller of a role playing game that offered the exploration of different worlds and planets, but just sucks really bad in the end. Namely, the inundation of the many different subtitles, that you must listen to in a foreign language and which cannot be turned off or skipped through, what the heck were they thinking?

The Anime style approach to graphics is poorly done, choppy and glitchy, so much so that I could not handle even beating the first pathetic level of this game where you are stuck in a crappy mall forever and there are only a few ways that you can go, even though this game is supposedly free world.

NBA LIve 08There were some significant changes that were made with regards to NBA Live 08 that made this game a winner over the last version that was released in 2007. The first thing that really made this game stand out for me was the massively improved graphics that it offers—which truly are eye popping, exceptional and very high definition. The players will actually sweat, and beads of their sweat will fall from their bodies and hit the floor—yeah it is that realistic.

    Add Comment

Ninja GaidenIf you are like me and have been a Ninja Gaiden fan for a long time, and have waited anxiously for the newest game to come out for the next generation video gaming consoles, namely, the Xbox 360 – there is good news: your wait is over and boy was it ever worth waiting for. July of 2007 saw the much anticipated release of the newest Ninja Gaiden game, created by Team Ninja and Tecmo – who else? – and offered to the masses at the earlier part of July. I literally saw people who were so excited about this game finally coming out that they lined up in the folds outside of the Game Stop near my home in order to get their hands on a midnight release of this game, so they could stay up all night long and play until their fingers bled; I was not one of them. I got a copy in the mail so I could review it: Yay!

The most impressive part of this game is the awesome and intense graphics that scream quality and make the most of the 16 pipelines available on the Xbox 360.

  • NCAA Football 08 – One of the Finest College Football Games Ever!

    Add Comment

NCAA FootballThe year 2008 saw many sport game hits for the Xbox 360 console, and this one stood tall and proud at the top of the bunch. NCAA Football 08 for the Xbox 360 was the finest college basketball game to ever be created. Featuring all 118 divisional teams and every single conference, how could they ever go awry? And considering that the game also has many improvements over the 2007 versions, needless to say, I was immediately hooked upon popping this sucker into my console. Of course, if you are not a fan of the sport of college football, then you need not read this review nor play this game. For all of you that are, however, here is my scoop.

There are some great added features that are prevalent in this game: namely, the scouting feature which allows for you to scout players from high schools and junior colleges from region to region, and add them to your list of potentials.

  • NBA Street Homecourt – Original Game that has Much to Offer!

    Add Comment

NBA StreetI really dug the idea behind this game, because all other basketball games are doing the same thing, and so from time to time EA will try to verge from the trodden path and offer us all something original. And unlike NFL Tour—EA’s Madden variant—this game actually rocks and socks…big time! For example there are several special moves like the Triple Dunk, a two play combination shot that requires perfect execution to implement, and can leave you falling on your hump if you fail to do it right. The main controls are very solid and fluid and easy to learn, comprising mostly of using the X and the Y button to bust out amazing combination moves in the styling of an arcade game.

The narrative and main theme is also solid: take the battle to the street court against current NBA all stars to see who gets the best of whom. And the game features more than ninety different parks to play in and the graphics are amazing. The frame rates are fast, and the player models are realistic.

  • NFL Tour: What Does this Game Suck!

    Add Comment

NFL TourAfter creating the monster hit that has spawned twenty years and has been available on nearly every gaming console known to man, EA for some reason always tries to outdo themselves with football games for the Xbox 360—when clearly they should just stick to their surefire winner: Madden. But, at any rate, they decided to make this piece of crap, arcade-styled football game, and yes, it does indeed suck, especially when compared to Madden. Basically take Madden and really dumb it down, cutting it to a fourth of its potential. Then make the graphics worse. Then offer cheap plays on both sides of the ball, where you can hit opponents and penalties are nearly nonexistent. In fact, about the only thing that rings real in my mind, with regards to this game, is that you are playing football.

The playbooks suck and are really tiny, offering few plays. The buttons are so simple; it’s like a game that your two year old brother could master in minutes.

Everything is the same about this game from the last, but they made some noticeable changes. Like the added Intensity Control feature, which will augment the reaction of your players based upon the crowd response. So play in an away game and get booed, and your players will suffer. Play at home and rile up the crowd and the basketball world is your oyster—very true the inklings of the college basketball phenomenon that drives games.

The online play is still lacking, but you can’t have your cake and eat it too right? The ability to create custom playbooks is flawless, and greatly adds to this game’s potential.

    Add Comment

OverlordI hate to have to dog one of my favorite gaming companies and publishers, Codemasters, because they tend to make amazing games, and I love you Codemasters, but that does not mean that you are perfect. So from time to time it means that you will give to use a crud encrusted piece of junk like this. And to be perfectly fair, the real blame falls on the game’s makers: Triumph Studios; shame on you. What was initially, I suppose, a good idea: be an evildoer and have a great time while doing so, has gone awry, surprise…surprise.

You are a ruler that is more evil than you are good—okay well you are totally evil. Basically the game’s premise is to dominate the world and enslave all of humanity. Using your armies—which will take you hours to learn the controls of—you must go around pillaging villages, looting towns and killing innocents in order to win the game, how nice.

  • NASCAR 08 – Left Hand Turns Were Never so Much Fun!

NASCAR 08Electronic Arts and Tiburon brought to us this hot and much anticipated sequel the smash 2007 hit of this game. And the same notion of greatness was easily attained for NASCAR 08 for the Xbox 360. So for all of you who already love the sport and who had a chance to play the 2007 counterpart, you will absolutely enjoy this game very much so. That being said, here is the scoop. They enhanced the graphics and made them ten times better—faster frame rates, more realistically modeled cars and better looking racing tracks. They also touched up the crowds, and all around the game looks and feels as fluid as ever.

They offer more game modes in this game inclusive of the Next Tel Cup, the Craftsman Truck series and NASCAR National series. If you play the main campaign, however, be prepared for a lengthy and realistic journey of races to win the big cup at the end. The game comes with a good soundtrack, if you like southern rock that is.

  • NHL 2K8 – Awesome Hockey Game, but not Without its Faults!

    Add Comment

NHL 2K8This late 2007 early 2008 game that was published by 2k Sports and created by Visual Concepts / Kush Games offers much in the realm of both hockey and frustrations that left some fans annoyed. The graphics are the best part, and are in the famous simulation style that defines 2k Sports games. And keep in mind that the ocean like choppiness was greatly minimized, which has been a classic notion for 2k games in the past.

While the graphics are better and the game play is better, the controls are still greatly lacking and will take some time for any gamer to become accustomed to. This is mostly due to weird combinations of controls for shooting that incorporate using both trigger buttons simultaneously. However, they did add the new ‘Shot Stick’ feature, which allows you to use the analog stick to aim your shot; sheer genius. And several newer game modes have also been added to this version, like ones that will allow for you to enjoy classic hockey matches from days past.

  • MX vs ATV Untamed: A Good Attempt Gone Horribly Awry!

    Add Comment

MX vs ATVCertainly I will give THQ credits for the main premise of this game: combine tons of different bike orientated racers into one. However, the delivery of this notion blows. The game does feature plenty to do once you have it popped inside your Xbox 360 console. Namely several game modes like go-carts, sand rails, BMX, ATVs, Golf carts and others, which all certainly have their own appeal. But here is a good rule of thumb guys: most of the time a video game company creates a bike game, or a BMX game or an ATV game, and focuses their budget on that game. When you merge them all, obviously you have to lower the standard, which makes the game shoddy in the end.

The controls are the worst part. There are even some game modes where you can get turned around and now you are driving backwards. Try getting your guy turned back the right way, good luck with that. The graphics are impressive, but that does not take away from some severely lacking control sets.

  • Over G Fighters – OMG This Game is Horrible!

    Add Comment

Over GLet’s see where to start…where to start here. It seems that there will never be many good fighter pilot games for the Xbox 360. Perhaps this is just because they are not nearly as popular as they are for the PC due to console limitations. And perhaps, because most of the companies that make them give us these pieces of crap, poor excuses for a fighter jet game. And this mantra of shoddiness purveys the notion entirely when it comes to Over G Fighters for the Xbox 360 – which should be more appropriately titled: You will hate this Shoddy Fighter Jet Game!”

Terrible controls that are vastly limited are streamlined with really poorly designed boards and bad graphics. Limited selection of the planes only adds more to this muster, and the narrative is nearly nonexistent. While I will give them kudos for releasing the first fighter jet game for the Xbox 360 that does not mean it is also the worst.

  • Ninety-Nine Nights Equals 99 Hours of Boredom!

    Add Comment

Ninety Nine NightsYou will not often hear me bashing any Microsoft published game, because generally speaking, they create some of the best games for the Xbox 360. However, in reality, Q Entertainment / Phantagram is to blame for creating this lackluster and boring mid-August of 2006 flop of a fighting game, that truly only really offers 99 hours of boredom. This notion is entirely augmented by shoddy graphics and really lagging frame rates that equally make this game unappealing to look at and play.

The game offers no training mode that I could find, so you are left to hack and slash your way to who-cares glory. As you wing it on your own and you are dropped into large scale battles that glitch galore, be prepared to encounter the sloppiest enemy AI that you have seen in your life. Some just stand there and do nothing until you trigger their movements. And it this is not bad enough, the name of the game is pressing the ‘X’ button until your thumb is about to fall off.

Moto GPMotoGP ’06 is one of the best motorcycle racers of its time. Released in mid-June of 2006 by Climax Studios, the world of Xbox 360 had never seen such a great racing game before. And keep in mind that this game is dated, but still is worthwhile and even today I have enjoyed picking up the controller and wrapping my thumbs around it for a few hours to get my octane thrills out of the way. The graphics—especially for three years ago—are simply amazing and highly detailed, and the game boasts an incredible frame rate with almost no noticeable glitches. The levels are so well modeled and rendered that the dirt actually looks real!

The game offers easy controls that will take but a few minutes to master. And there are plenty of cool game modes that you can enjoy. Like the Grand Prix mode, which will take you many hours to get good at—where your skills as a racer are pitted against nineteen other drivers, and the AI is pretty formidable.

MLB 2k7 is of course brought to you by good guys over at 2k Sports—which is basically a Sega post console venture. And, to be quite honest, when EA is consistently one of the top game makers in the world, and for good reasons too, is there really any point in trying to best them when they have better designers and developers, more industry clout and a far surpassing budget that dwarfs any fledgling companies? Nope. That is why you will never really see any other good sports game – because EA makes all of the good ones and shuts down the competition.

And for all extents and purposes, it is really just an expansion to the original Rainbow Six: Vegas games – as their developers will woefully admit. That being said, however, does not mean that this game doesn’t seriously rock hard in more ways than one!

The name of this game is rather simple – all of the controls and the functions are identical to the first; however they made certain to remedy the many errors and glitches that plagued the first game. Namely – you can now skip through those lengthy and boring cinematic intros, which sucked to replay if you just died on the same level for the fiftieth time. The player outfitting screen is friendlier to the two player, cooperative campaign and the squad play has been greatly enhanced for two players.

Wow – how is that for a trip down memory lane? At any rate, the Rainbow Six series has always been one that got me all perked up and ready to battle terrorists to save the day. Even when it was released for the N64, the sole emphasis of the game was that of teamwork and strategy – working with your buddies (up to four per game console simultaneously) in order to successfully complete each mission. And, the dudes over at Ubisoft knew that they had better have one hell of a monster shooter in store for us Xbox junkies or else…but no worries: they more than came through with Rainbow Six: Vegas!

Microsoft made sure that when they made the Xbox 360 that avid gamers would still be able to play many older Xbox games on their newer Xbox console; they called this backwards compatibility. Pefect DarkIf you take a fond look back down memory road for the Xbox 360 gaming console’s many different shooters—most of which have horribly flopped for one good reason after another—you will find that they offer limited multiplayer functions and limited boards, and limited, well everything. This leads me to wonder why the shooters of today are not offering some pretty hot options and features that the shooters of yesteryear, which were released years ago and are far more outdated than the shooters of today, are now offering. For example, can you find or name a current hot selling shooter title of today that offers same console up to four player Xbox Live play – using friend tags for added controllers or profiles?

I think not. Can you find me a multiplayer that offers this, plenty of boards, bots that can be in the boards with real players and up to 48 players in one board at time, while allowing for same console multiplayer? No you could never find one.

  • Fable II Delivers on Graphics, Narrative: Game Play is still Childish However

    Add Comment

What amounted for long and drawn out speculations as to whether or not they were ever going to release another version of Fable has been all quelled with this 2008 release of what was surrounded by oh so much hype and fanciness, and coyly was dubbed as Fable II – because they could not think of a better, more innovative name, or for lack thereof of any thing better to call it. When indeed it should just been dubbed Fable or something similar. Yet in the story they pick up a few hundred years (I think) after the original Fable tale for the original Xbox gaming console.

With the release of Fable Two does come much more to do and, of course, my complaints and restraints, as well as my kudos. And to set the record straight, I view Fable as the clash of the Titans between other fantasy role playing juggernauts, like Final Fantasy and Oblivion, the same as the juxtaposition between the popular NFL games, Madden and 2k Sports – they both offer something unique and different.

What follows are what I deem the top four reasons to own a Microsoft Xbox 360 video gaming console. These are just my opinions so please, just enjoy…don’t get all upset.

    Exclusive Downloadable Content
More video games that are released on the next generation video gaming consoles inclusive of the Wii, PS3 and Xbox 360, of them all—the Xbox 360 has more exclusive downloadable content. For example, new content for Fallout 3, Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Grand Theft Auto IV are only available on the Xbox 360.

  • After Frying 7 Xbox 360’s – Here is How to Legally Beat the System Once and For All!

You read the title of this article right, I have fried successfully more than seven Xbox 360 consoles over the course of less than four years; three in fact over the past year. I have had them repaired. I have had the mod done. I have even had the Artic Silver coating applied. They still break. In fact, I finally broke down today and bought a new one just so I can keep reviewing games for you all on this site. After getting burned so many different times, there is in fact a way to beat the system and get a new Xbox for only thirty bucks every time it fries.

Why Xbox 360’s Get the Red Rings of Death (RROD)
The Xbox 360 is made cheaply. The heat synch that is supposed to cool the motherboard does not have enough thermal sealing on it. As a result the motherboard heats up too much. This causes the soldering on the main chips to heat up and become loose over time. Eventually the thing stops working.

  • Music, Dancing and Rock Star Games Making Themselves Known on Xbox 360

It seems that video games will never ever be the same with the advent of the next generation video gaming consoles, like the PS3 (Sony) and the Xbox 360 (Microsoft). And with the yuletide of the these next generation consoles does come the promises of a newer, better and more imaginative video gaming world. One that offers folks who drop the high amounts of dollars required to own such fancy gadgets not only a video game machine, but an all around computer that has much to do. For example, the Xbox 360 can store music and movies, and allows for you to even link it to your computer. You can buy a keyboard and use it as a computer. Or you can even download games from the internet and play them. You can also chat with friends, connect to websites and much more. But the most recent trend to take over the world of video gamers who enjoy such fancies is music based video games that are entirely interactive.

  • Sonic the Hedgehog Arrives for the Xbox 360 – Same Sega Thrills Revisited

I must truly say that I was a serious fan of the game that originally was Sega’s masterpiece and the signature game to their doomed gaming consoles. After Sega CD bit the dust, followed by the posthumous subsequent death of the Sega Dreamcast, I was all but done with Sega. Especially considering that I owned tons of games and accessories when Sega decide to announce that they were discontinuing Dreamcast forever and were going to cease all productions and designs of any future video game consoles in favor of only making software titles. And yes, 2k Sports followed in their wake, only to let me down once again with losing the rights to make NFL titles.

So with the demise of Sega from the console industry I lost my love for Sonic the Hedgehog and my praise of the lauded and simulation based football games, 2k ESPN football.

  • Guitar Hero II – Better Graphics, More Tunes, Same Thing All Over Again!

    Add Comment

One of the best selling games in the history of the video gaming market, and in the history of the Xbox 360 (yes you can play it on other consoles) is back and ready to rock your world again. This time with all new tunes, totally revamped graphics and a better looking, more rocking, crowd pleasing, virtual rock band, that somehow you belong to even though there is a large guitar neck underneath them telling you what colored buttons need to be depressed and when, in order to please the virtual crowd – who is seemingly drunk all of the time they are at your shows – and in order to gain that rock superstar status that you have always craved your entire life. In short, while I deem these Guitar Hero games to be great games, and will not knock them, I will say this: read my blog on the quips about being a musician and then playing Guitar Hero – it’s nothing like the real thing. But hey, that’s quite all right, everybody needs to be a rock star from time to time.

  • Guitar Hero: Aerosmith – Same Game, Different Songs, Better Graphics

On a personal note, I love the band Aerosmith, they simply put: Rock. So what better way to solidify more their dominance of rock star superdome than to allow them to grace the cover of one of the best selling video games of all time, and that game being…trumpet blare and drum roll please: Guitar Hero. I thought that these sultry rockers were the perfect cats to be featured on the cover of this game because of so many different reasons. And have you ever noticed how big Steven Tyler’s mouth is – it’s like the Gene Simons equivalent, only Tyler has the mouth size to match the tongue?

Of course you could hear me babble to you all day long about rock stars, but you read this blog to get reviews of Xbox 360 games so that you know which ones to buy. And if you are an avid reader you already know my musician’s point of view, or my quips on Guitar Hero, but that does not mean I don’t and can’t recognize a truly fantastic game when I see one.

  • When Lame is the Name – These Two Games Add to the Pile of Suck!

From time to time I am reminded of some fairly adjunct Xbox 360 games, and sometimes they are so bad that they actually make me laugh. And when I stumble across nostalgic memories of games past, not to mention the worst Xbox 360 games of past, I can no longer stifle the writing urges in my worn arms. So when that purging beckons its calling and gets my avid gamer blood a boiling, there is nothing more than I can do but to forewarn all gamers about the detrimental nature of some games. Well…not that they are really going to destroy your life by playing them, but that they are so bad, that you will seriously and truly regret your decision to even rent them. Why? Because some Xbox 360 games just downright suck. Like Band of Bugs, Sneaking and Hail to the Chimp – to name a few.

  • Saints Row – Another Terrible GTA Rip-Off Bites the Dust!

The Japanese and the Chinese have the right mindset when it comes to the illustrious notions of what is commonly referred to as the nice way to rip off a candid and originally idea: reverse engineering. But when the Asians reverse engineer a product, like a car or a TV or a computer, they make it better than the original. Which is why so many people drive Toyotas or buy Sony products. So when it comes to a video game, here is a good rule of thumb: don’t rip off a game and do it shoddily and then expect gamers like me not to call you on your ruckus, because when you do make a bad rip off and it clearly shows, you are just making ample fodder for my many reviews to bite your game into pieces and tell my readers exactly how it really is. So now, getting back on track, when it comes to the worst rip off game that I have ever seen, Saint’s Row – this notion is so true it makes me shriek.

Think of the worst version of Grand Theft Auto that you could ever do, and make it suck even worse, and you have Saints Row.

  • Turok: The Newest Dinosaur Fighter Rocks and Socks

If you don’t recall all of the hype, the many commercials that were saturating the web, the TV and nearly every bus stop that you could drive by, then you are forgetting the third quarter of 2008, which saw the release of the long awaited, much anticipated dinosaur shooter classic, Turok. In a nutshell, this game rides on the notion of a special forces dude who ends up in a jungle somewhere, somehow and has to fight off dinosaurs and enemies who are trying to connive together to bring evil to the world. Touchstone and Propaganda Games were the brainstorming neophytes behind this conception, which has netted them plenty of hype, and allowed them to brandish one of the more successful shooter games because of the uniqueness and well produced games that have always been the status quo in the Turok series. And this one is no different. In fact, it’s the best Turok yet, and will remain that way for quite some time. Now on to the goodies.

The Graphics are the best part of Turok and are simply amazing and brilliant.

  • Call of Duty: World at War – Decent Shooter that Builds on Franchise History

    Add Comment

My first thoughts when I decided to play Call of Duty: World at War for the Xbox 360 was that it would be just like the other COD games that have always offered a decent amount of game play hours and tons of unique and innovative items that are signature to their franchise. However, I was both excited and dismayed when I finally had a chance to pop the game into my console and get the shooting underway. I say dismayed, because I had been over hyped on the game’s commercials, and I have played all of the other games in the series and have beaten them all. So off I went, with my best friend and with our guns armed and our minds open we began the feat of beating the next COD game in the series.

I say with my friend because unlike other prior releases of this game, this one allows for you to enjoy same console cooperative play with your friends. However, this is dwarfed by a few important things. Like you cannot share a friend gamer tag on the same Xbox 360 console for Xbox Live – how did they forget that?
