Tomb Raider: Anniversary
It seemed to take quite some time for this game to really evolve, even after having a few hit movies to boast and brag about on its shoulders. However, the truth be known, Tomb Raider is one of the best selling video games in history and not because it sucks! On the contrary, it offers a more unique experience that merges first person shooters with strategy and problem solving, combined with first rate graphics and bosses that will leave most people dizzy they are so impressed.
The coolest feature that I found in Tomb Raider: Anniversary is called “Bullet Dodge.” This is similar to the Max Payne ‘Slow Time’ feature. If your power meter is charged you can literally slow down time enough that you can see bullets flying at you and successfully dodge them. The graphics are really incredible and the frame rates are fast and serene. A decent in game tutorial will teach you the basics of Laura Croft’s movements, but mastering them enough to win and be quick with your gun is up to you my friends!
This time around, they have remodeled Laura Croft to really look like her big screen colleague, Angelina Jolie. The puzzles are harder to solve. The boards are far larger. And the plot is thicker than a Robert Jordan novel. While it did take me some time to really get into this game and dig into the thick of it, once I did, I found that I was haplessly hooked on it. Nearly as much as the first time around. Okay, I lied. Even more so! If you are a fan of the past Tomb Raider games, this one is just for you!
“If you loved the classic PS1 and PS2 versions (not to mention the original Xbox ones) of this timeless and rare, game-before-movie hit, then you will not be let down in the least when and if you pop Tomb Raider: Anniversary into your Xbox 360 disc drive! Some of the best graphics that you have ever seen will delight your eyes and your senses. Hard to solve puzzles will require some real thinking through before you delve into the next portion of the many boards that you will be required to beat. All in all, Tomb Raider: Anniversary certainly delivered—a heck of lot more than I ever expected!”
My Score: 8.5 out of 10
