Biggest Letdown Shooter: Soldier of Fortune Payback

The long awaited and much anticipated, and generally speaking over hyped sequel the very popular Soldier of Fortune series makes its debut and respective flop on the Xbox 360 console. A word to the wise here: some games are just much better when played on the computer, because the computer can handle more processes and functions, namely with a better graphics card than the 360 has to offer. So in short: this game is great fun on any PC, however veer way clear of it if you own a next generation video gaming console, as you are in for a most certain letdown my friends!

You take the shoes of a clandestine, government funded mercenary that is hired to hunt down terrorists and bring them to vigilante, bloody justice. Travel the world afar, but be limited to closed pathway boards that are not free world. The graphics look okay, but are greatly hindered by a slower than a snail frame rate, that will make even old school gamers like me nod their heads in frustration!

The best part about this game is the gore animations. You can even shoot the fingers and toes off a body, or blow it up with a grenade and have eyeballs and brains fly out at you. The controllers are the standard fair of shooters, but they lag and are not nearly as responsive as say the Halo functions. In short: cool gore, but just about everything else on this game for the Xbox 360 really blows! If you must play it, get for your computer, which can actually handle the graphics better!

“Great graphics and awesome gore functionality don’t always make for the best shooter video game on the Xbox 360, as is clearly demonstrated with Soldier of Fortune Payback! This game has some of the longest loading times of any game that I have ever played, so long in fact, that they become frustrating. Go through a door, wait a minute to load, enter a building same thing…the loading makes your hair thin it takes so long. The plot, thinner than an anorexic! So even though this game has some cool bangs for the buck, ultimately it does not deliver on the hype at all! Pass this one up as it is still all about Halo folks!”

My Score: 6.5 out of 10
