Army of Two will Make you Hate Their Multiplayer Schemes!
I love Electronic Arts, but that does not mean that they are not capable of producing a lackluster video game title for the Xbox 360. And before all you lovers of Army of Two go on your brandishing of me for my lack of caring about this game, the game itself is sweet, offers some cool and unique innovations and has amazing graphics. But, the two player functions are sloppy, shoddy and forbidding—and ultimately they ruined the entire experience of the game for me. Trust me, I will tell you all that I loved and hated about this game in the paragraphs that follow!
The game is setup like you are a two man army. You can outfit your soldiers and the game does offer a decent in game tutorial so that you both know how to work together as one. But, you can only play the game with either another player present on the same console, or live. That is, unless you want to be subjected to the computer playing your partner and sucking ass because of poorly created AI. The controls are nearly identical to the standard fare of shooters; however there are some weird things. Like, you need to have one player draw fire of the computer AI so you can get around their covering fire. But this takes time, becomes frustrating and is nearly useless in the scheme of things.
The frame rates are fast, the loading times quick, the boards are decent. But my major quip with this game is thus: there are little objects that you need to climb over. But for some reason you are unable to do so without the help of the second player. Even though the second player can get up these objects on their own, you need them to extend a hand and help you up over them—freaking lame! Look guys, just give us same console two player games without the fuss, is this too much to ask for?
“Army of Two is interesting at first. Awesome graphics, cool boards, sweet weapons, really fast frames…but that wears off really quickly when you realize how screwed up the enemy AI is and how lame the two player facets of the game are. I still anxiously await the day that a game can offer a serious two player campaign like Halo does…will that day ever come? Oh yeah, when Halo 4 is out!”
My Score: 7.25 out of 10
