Virtua Tennis 3: Cool Game, Great Graphics!
Early 2007 saw another fruitful attempt by Sega to garner industry praise, yet at the same time, this game, like many other Sega endeavors, seems to be lacking in far too many places to really get them the kudos that they were driving for in the end. I will credit them with a great attempt at making a decent and fun tennis game. This game offers many of the pro players, save for a few of the top players, which obviously didn’t not get the money they wanted from Sega in order to sign off on the game, but the selection is enough to make most gamers happy. And, you can easily create your own rookie player, which is what I prefer to do anyways!
The best part about this Xbox 360 game is that it fully takes advantage of the sixteen graphical pipelines offered by the console, providing intense and greatly detailed, high definition graphics that scream quality. They even show clothing texture, hair follicles, and player sweat dripping onto the hot pavement as they run around the courts. The controls are the same, or nearly the same, as the other two games which preceded this one, and are very easy to learn and master. After just a few short hours of doodling around, you will be the next great thing to happen to virtual tennis, and you will have a great time playing it in the meanwhile!
The best mode that I found was the Career Mode, where you can take a fledgling rookie from the very bottom and raise up through the ranks to the upper echelon of tennis superstardom. It allows for up to twenty career years, which is ample time to make the next great pro come to life in a virtual world. My only quip is that they could have added more real to life professional players on the roster as well as more pro courts. Other than that, it’s a damned good tennis game that is most certainly worth playing and even owning for the tennis freak in you!
“Virtual Tennis 3 is an all around excellent tennis game that covers nearly all of the bases and fully delivers next generation, high definition graphics! A definite improvement from the first two that serves to show the world that Sega is still very much a culpable gaming enterprise!”
My Score: 7 out of 10
