NCAA Football 08 – One of the Finest College Football Games Ever!

NCAA FootballThe year 2008 saw many sport game hits for the Xbox 360 console, and this one stood tall and proud at the top of the bunch. NCAA Football 08 for the Xbox 360 was the finest college basketball game to ever be created. Featuring all 118 divisional teams and every single conference, how could they ever go awry? And considering that the game also has many improvements over the 2007 versions, needless to say, I was immediately hooked upon popping this sucker into my console. Of course, if you are not a fan of the sport of college football, then you need not read this review nor play this game. For all of you that are, however, here is my scoop.

There are some great added features that are prevalent in this game: namely, the scouting feature which allows for you to scout players from high schools and junior colleges from region to region, and add them to your list of potentials. Then you have so many hours per week, twenty, that you can assign to talking with different players and unlocking points of interest. This includes academics that your school offers, your coach integrity and pride, workout facilities, pro factory and many more. Some players are easily convinced, other, hotter prospects take a full season to get signed; very true to the reality.

They also added an open schedule option, which allows for you to pick teams that you want to play against in unlocked games, which are between six and seven different games per year. So if you want to climb the rankings, schedule home game between USC and your team. But be careful, lest you lose and fall in the BCS ratings – which are also very true to their real life counterparts and will always favor the big house teams like Michigan and LSU.

The graphics are intense and now feature gang tackles and you can challenge plays, something new to the sport. There are newer and revamped stadiums that scream realism, and the commentators have much more to say than ever before. Finally, you can use a new set of pre play calls, which allows you to change your defensive formations, create hot routes and much more. This game is just the best there has ever been to-date in the genre, and is certainly a timeless classic.

And while the newer NCAA has been released, nothing will change what this game did: it offered faster frame rates, better player models and more realistic play calling – a feat that was lacking in the 2007 game and those before it, but one that they made sure to perfect this time around!

“NCAA Football 08 is a graphical and simulation masterpiece that was years in the making. EA greatly added to an already awesome franchise and aims to keep this series the chart topper for years to come!”

My Score: 9.9 out of 10
