Red Faction Two: Backwards Compatible Xbox 360 Shooter that Rocks!
Touching on a topic that I have little delved into, well actually, a topic that I have barely even scratched the surface of: backwards compatibility. For those of you, who are not in the know of what exactly this term refers to when it comes to your Xbox 360, let me fill in the details really quickly. Microsoft made sure that when they made the Xbox 360 that avid gamers would still be able to play many older Xbox games on their newer Xbox console; they called this backwards compatibility. Basically, all that is required is that you visit their website and download a file and burn it to a disc and install that disc on your Xbox 360. Then you will be able to enjoy playing hundreds of old Xbox games on your newer, next generation console. If you need to download the files, you can do so from Microsoft Here. Red Faction is an awesome shooter, one that offers ease of controls, great graphics (especially for its time) and awesome gun selections that break from the status quo of boring weapons that plague most shooters. For example, each weapon has its own special, so every weapon is useful twofold. Secondly, guns like the Rail Gun, which you can use the special to implement x-ray vision and track your enemy through the walls. Then when you lock on to them, fire away and the bullets will pass through walls and take your enemy out. Get really good at this and you will have many people who are pissed off at you and often.
The in-game missions are invigorating and exciting and will lead you down the path to freeing people from a communist government that aims to take away their freedom far into the future. And, for every board that you beat, you also unlock a few multiplayer boards; there are literally more than fifty of them. While I liked the campaign, this game is really all about the multiplayer. True to the original Xbox mantra—that mantra being that all games were effectively same console, multiplayer—you can play up to four people at once in awesome boards that are both unique and challenging. A good shooter all around that won’t leave you bored to tears, and one that has many different variants to offer.
“Red Faction 2 is by far one of the best backwards compatible games for the Xbox to Xbox 360 emulator, especially when it comes to a hearty shooter. From the gory and always appeasing M (mature) rating, which assures that limbs will fly when the bullets do, to the hundreds of different multiplayer boards that can be unlocked, to the thirty different weapons and all of the specials…Red Faction 2 rocks all around!"
My Score: 8 out of 10
See why I loved Red Faction 2 so much, and why I still play it on my Xbox 360
