Battlefield 2: Modern Combat – Modern Warfare Shooter with Plenty of Perks
Calling all you lovers of classic Xbox 360 shooters, of which some of the best I still happily house on the shelf collecting dust next to many other favorites. And even though I don’t have time to pop them into my Xbox 360 that often, from time to time they remind me of just why the next generation gaming consoles are so awesome – even if they break down all of the freaking time. When it comes to shooters, the status quo is that most of them really suck. But, that does not mean that a great shooter does not get released and see the light of day every once in a while. And when it does, its best to hang on tight to that copy, because you never know when another good shooter will come out that can best it. This notion is entirely true when it comes to the 2006 smash hit, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat, a joint endeavor by Digital Illusions CE (DICE) and Electronic Arts.
In a nutshell, this game is really awesome, super modern, the whole stinking world is at war and trying to obliterate itself, rock them and sock them, pick them up and box them, all around shooter that glorifies strategy and modern day tactics in a real time, make your decision and face the consequences of it layout. Phew, that was a lot of words. The graphics are some of the best I have ever seen, and have yet to see for that matter, in any shooter that has been released that I have numbed by thumbs over for the Xbox 360 gaming console. That being said, here is the all too mighty scoop on this gun blazing finger burner.
Highly Detailed Boards and Plenty of Weapons
There can never, in my opinion, be enough different weapons with cool doodads and gadgets, and special features on them in any shooter. But this game offers a nice boatload of them, which assures that you will always have something new to blow your enemy to bits with. While the storyline is rather sultry, and like all shooters the in-game play can become a bit redundant and repetitive from time to time, it still shines as graphically detailed and highly advanced shooter, especially considering that year that it was released (2006).
Cool features are the sniper mode, which mimics breathing and the shake of the weapon, and calling in air strikes on dug in enemies that you face abroad. The Live play is seriously lacking, mostly because the boards are so detailed and vast that the servers totally lag when it comes to bandwidth, which makes me sad, because one only can be left to wonder the magnificent kill rating you could get if the game was not hanging all of the time.
Final Thoughts: while a good attempt at a shooter, decent boards, okay weapons, standard control functions and so on, the Teen rating takes away from the gore that I crave in all shooters, and the lack of a good live experience is also detrimental. But if you want an okay shooter that will entertain you from time to time, this game wins the spelling bee.
